May PTO minutes 5/2/2013

Mrs. Fitzgerald gave the administration’s updates:
Junior Police assembly was Wednesday at Pentucket Lake.
Tuesday, May 7th begins two weeks of MCAS testing.

Friday, April 26th was Bingo and Freeze Pops as a reward celebration for everyone’s hard work during the ELA MCAS.
Write Away! winners were announced and the ceremony date is May 16th.

Everyone was given a copy of the treasurer’s report and there were no questions or comments.  There will be a more detailed breakdown of some of the broader categories like “special requests” in the future.  The PTO helped the teachers purchase new microwaves for the teacher’s room.

Fun Friday raised $106.70 and the next event is 3/31 (crazy hair day)

Flower Power raised $673.50 which is a good first year showing.  The bulbs were reported to be of good quality and the company was very responsive to work with.

The second Scripps only raised $32.85 so next year we will probably only do the holiday drive.

Staff Appreciation week is May 6 – 10.  The schedule is Smoothies and baked goods on Monday, Breakfast on Tuesday, Stationary on Wednesday, Scratch Tickets and Chocolates for Thursday and Friday but not necessarily in that order.

Track pinnies have been ordered for the Golden Hill track team.  They will be in by the first meet and are reversible with white on one side and purple with the eagle logo on the other.

BoxTops did not get submitted for the most recent BT submission deadline, but will be going in shortly.  The last day students can submit them towards this year’s contest is Tuesday, May 28th

Lowell Spinners tickets are currently being sold and purchases are due by May 17th.  If enough people purchase tickets the students can be in a parade around the field and someone from the school can toss the first pitch.  PTO has 150 tickets.

Field day is June 7th.  T-shirt forms will be going out this week.  Volunteers are needed and should be CORI’d to participate. After field day the students will get popsicles and participate in a staff/student volleyball game.  4th grade students need to sign the ’13 for their field day t-shirts.

Upcoming Title I Movie Night is Thursday, May 23rd.  Kids need to vote on movie so PTO can purchase appropriate license.  “Drive In” theme where people bring blankets.  Pizza and drink will be provided.  Additional snacks will be served. No outside food or beverages allowed.

Memorial Day Concert is May 24th.

Fourth Grade graduation/awards ceremony date will be held June 18th at 10:30am.  With Mrs. Chipman retiring the PTO would like to present her with a thank you gift.

The PTO would like to host a fundraising walk to purchase an ELMO or smartboard for Golden Hill and to donate to the One Fund for the marathon bombing victims.  The tentative date for this event is June 13th.

The PTO is seeking fall fundraiser ideas.  The coupon book fundraiser will be back in the fall but books will not be going home unless they are ordered.  The PTO will have a table at the open house where they will also be selling books.

PTO requested grade specific supply wish lists so they could offer the “School Tools” supply box fundraiser in the fall.

The PTO asked if grades three and four had any field trip requests.  Grade 2 is having a puppet show.  Suggestions were made for local opportunities perhaps through the Haverhill Cultural Council and for in house presentations since busing is so expensive.

PTO elections will be held at the next meeting.  Next PTO meeting is Thursday, June 6th.

PTO is looking to do planting around the school for decoration.  Planters have been purchased and flowers will be added to brighten up the exterior.

The playscape is the responsibility of the Haverhill Recreational Department and not the School Department.  A request has been made of the rec department to provide much needed mulch for the playscape.  This is a safety need and not an aesthetic one!
