The Multilingual Education Department (MLE) serves English learners in the Haverhill Public Schools as they acquire social and academic language proficiency in English, while acknowledging and building upon their existing linguistic funds of knowledge.

  • We believe that students will, with appropriate supports, succeed academically, linguistically, and socially to demonstrate grade-level standards and skills.
  • We believe in equity of opportunity for all students.
  • We believe that bilingualism and biliteracy are valuable assets.
  • We believe that all educational decisions must meet the needs of students who have historically faced obstacles to educational access.
  • We believe in an asset-based, Can Do philosophy that values students’ linguistic, academic, and cultural backgrounds.
