City Trick or Treat: Saturday Night Safety
The City of Haverhill will host Trick or Treat this Saturday evening. With our neighborhoods filled with costumed little ghosts, goblins, and superheroes, we ask all motorists to use extreme caution:
- Drive slowly and stay well below posted speed limits in residential areas.
- Eliminate distractions behind the wheel and watch carefully for children crossing between parked cars or stepping off curbs.
- For our families heading out, please remember to use flashlights or glow sticks, stay on sidewalks where possible, and inspect all treats before enjoying them.
Daylight Saving Time: Don't Forget to "Fall Back"!
Finally, a friendly reminder that Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend! Don't forget to turn your clocks back one hour before heading to bed on Saturday night so everyone is well-rested and on time for school on Monday morning.

Trick or Treat

Happy Halloween from Haverhill Public Schools!
The City of Haverhill will be celebrating Trick or Treat Saturday, and our neighborhoods will be bustling with little ghosts, goblins, and superheroes!
As our families head out to enjoy the festivities, please remember to drive with extra caution through local neighborhoods, slow down, and stay alert.
Here are a few quick safety reminders for a fun and spooky night:
-
Be Bright & Seen: Carry flashlights or glow sticks, and add reflective tape to dark costumes or treat bags.
-
Eyes on the Road: Drivers, avoid distractions and keep your eyes peeled for children who may dart across streets unexpectedly.
-
Stick to Sidewalks: Pedestrians should stay on sidewalks where available, cross only at street corners or marked crosswalks, and avoid walking between parked vehicles.
-
Buddy System: Travel in groups, and ensure younger children are always accompanied by a trusted adult.
-
Check the Haul: Remind trick-or-treaters to wait until they get home so an adult can inspect all treats before digging in.
Wishing all of our Haverhill Public Schools students, staff, and families a safe, fun, and spooky Halloween!

Global Perspective in Haverhill Public Schools
Marc J. Gwamaka, Chief of Staff of the Aegis Trust and the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Rwanda, led student-centered lessons on forgiveness and violence prevention for all eighth-grade students at Consentino, Hunking, Nettle, and Whittier from October 5th–8th.
The visit supports the district's eighth-grade unit on genocide and bystander education. Mr. Gwamaka is helping students understand how hatred escalates into violence, how ordinary people can interrupt that process, and what forgiveness requires and makes possible. Students were introduced to Rwanda's history as part of the genocide education they engage with throughout the year.
"Genocide begins with ordinary choices: the words we use, who we exclude, and when we stay silent. Every Haverhill eighth grader is learning from Marc Gwamaka that prevention starts with them, and that peace is something young people can build," said Ted Kempinski, lead genocide education teacher at Haverhill.
"...one of the things that peace education does is to re-humanize people so that they can now start the process of even healing," said Mr. Gwamaka.
State Rep. Andy X. Vargas (D-Haverhill) was also in attendance for the session at Consentino Middle School on Thursday, October 8th.
Looking ahead, this spring the district will host a Rwandan Genocide Civics Leadership Training Conference for high school students focused on civic improvement, led by Mr. Gwamaka!

Shoutout to our incredible Haverhill High School Counseling Department for showing up in full force for "On Mondays We Wear Blue"!
Our counselors are a vital part of every student’s support system—helping our Hillies navigate school, friendships, and future goals. Seeing them wear blue in unity sends a clear message across our halls: You are never alone, and you always have people in your corner.
Who are your people at HHS? Stop by the counseling office today to say hello and thank them for everything they do!
Hillies: Stand Up! Speak Up!
